Meet our featured pet!

Hi, I’m Cheyenne and I am a spayed female Redbone Coonhound mix. I am approximately 4-5 years old and I am up-to-date on my vaccinations. I am one of Moore Humane Society’s long term residents. It has been difficult for me to find my furever loving home, because I am a hound mix. We hounds tend to be overlooked and misunderstood because most people think hounds are meant only for hunting. However, we also make very good house pets. We can be surprisingly affectionate and we have a strong desire to please our master.  Speaking for myself, I am very loveable and enjoy a good ol’ belly rub. I am a tad bit on the shy side, but I do warm up to people fairly quickly.

Come on over to the shelter. I can’t wait to meet you! If you do not have the lifestyle that would allow you to have your own dog, stop by and spend a little time with us. We love when volunteers come by and take us on walks to the park or just play and love on us. It helps to socialize us while we wait for our new families to find us.

"Puppy Mill" Rescue

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has uncovered a massive "puppy mill" in Hillsville, VA. The facility was found to have over 1,000 dogs and puppies on site. Many of the dogs and puppies were removed by county officials and members of the Virginia Partnership for Animal Welfare and Support (VA PAWS), an animal advocacy group based in the New River Valley that's been working with the Humane Society.

HSUS contacted us to see if we would be willing to take in some of the puppies and knowing we could not turn our backs on these needy animals, we happily agreed. Last week, Moore Humane Society Board member Corinne O' Connor Frye traveled to Virginia and brought back twenty dogs and puppies. We have sinced placed thirteen of them with other local animal organizations.

Before being placed in loving, permanent homes, the remaining seven dogs and and puppies will be examined, spay/neutered and socialized. We expect them to ready for adoption in the next couple of weeks. Look for their photos on the website soon.  Please be aware, however, that these dogs and puppies will be adopted quickly due to the media surrounding this rescue and we ask you to consider one of our other dogs.

Please, remember many of our dogs and puppies awaiting adoption have come from situations similar to this and even worse. Many have been waiting for months, even years for a family of their own. Like every dog and cat, they deserve a loving home. So please open up your heart and let them know they have not been forgotten!!

Come out and support the 2007 Holiday Light Show!

Lights of Delight invites you to experience their 2007 Holiday Light Show beginning Saturday, December 1 through Saturday, January 5. Children of all ages will be delighted by the excitement and energy of a winter wonderland of magnificent lights of brilliant colors choreographed to a tremendously uplifting musical score. The show will be presented at the Carolina Equestrian Village in Carthage, North Carolina.

The 2007 Holiday Light Show is exciting for a number of reasons. In terms of its creativity and beauty, it is a true experience. The show has over 100,000 lights choreographed to over 65 wonderful holiday songs performed by a variety of artists. In addition, children will love the animations including some surprises never seen before. Visitors from past shows have called it “awesome...something one would expect from a Hollywood production.”

This is a FREE show open to the entire community. However, the show is a fundraiser for two wonderful non-profit groups, one being the Moore Humane Society. The only thing they request is that if you enjoy the show, please consider making a donation. More information

A Letter to Santa

Dear Santa,

My name is Pogo.  I’m a 4 year old, spayed shepherd mix.  I’ve been living at Moore Humane Society for quite a while now.  All I have ever wanted for Christmas was to find a new home with a family who will love and adore me!  Santa, if you can help me find my new family, I promise to smother them with love and devotion and always be good (most of the time)!
                                                          Sincerely,
                                              Pogo (The dog…not the stick)
